3 Tools That Improved My Mcat Score

Retaking the MCAT is never fun. Studying for it a second time is even worse. I don’t know about you, but it feels like waiting in an endless line at the DMW. How much longer? Am I ready? Do I need to push? What if the second time is worse than the first? I learned a lot by restudying for the MCAT which I’ll share with you all in the coming days. Here are some essential resources I feel helped me improve my score by 5+ points. Nothing new but make sure you under why it's part of the process.

A good set of content reviews - This does not have to be books! I used a comprehensive video collection. I think people sleep on the content phase but if you struggled academically on your journey to medicine, this is a significant phase. Sure, questions are vital to understanding how to apply those skills, but if you don’t know what to apply, how will you answer the question?

A set of practice questions - This is key! You need to practice. Questions allow you to apply information, analyze passages, and review what you do not know. Do not spend all your time on content to leave a short time for questions. Everyone incorporates questions differently in their study schedule, but you can improve your score through questions as long as you are CONSISTENT. And please do not forget to review the questions and any content that you didn’t understand.

Practice Exams - Now, many people save practice exams until the end. I think that you can incorporate exams a little earlier than that. This a good way of seeing how far you’ve come. It also builds your STAMINA. Stamina is so essential for the MCAT. I fell asleep during my first MCAT. Yes, head rolling, eyes heavy, yawning. I had to pinch myself to stay awake. Did I get enough sleep? Yes. I lacked the stamina to sit for the whole exam as I took breaks during practice and did not take enough. You don’t need to take a zillion practices exams, but it’s essential to take a few including the AAMC Full-Length practice exams.
