For Those Waiting To Hear From Medical Schools

A year ago, I was restudying for my MCAT, in grad school, working 2 jobs, and preparing for the next cycle while receiving my XXth rejection letter. Today, I am mostly focusing on myself while enjoying the last few months of freedom I have left. I have seen many amazing and beautiful posts about acceptances to top choices, full cost of attendance scholarships, and more. While I love seeing these posts, I know that there are many hardworking premeds who are also waiting to receive those glimpses of joy.

Having had an unsuccessful application cycle, I can resonate with those who are still currently waiting to hear back from schools.

πŸ’™ Please know that you are excellent

πŸ’™Please know that your excellence and your worth is not tied to your acceptance into medical school.

πŸ’™ Please know, that if you are unable to gain acceptance this year, that does not mean you are inadequate or will not gain one in the future.

πŸ’™ Please know that you can and will still be a doctor.

πŸ’™ Please know that the cycle is not over and all you need is one yes.

According to the AAMC 2021 - 2022 stats, we currently have 62,443 vying for 22,666 spots. That is a 36.3% chance. There are not enough spots for all the amazing people who apply and that is not our fault.

As we continue through this cycle, keep working hard. Send out your update letters, reach out to schools, and prepare yourself (not as a plan A but a plan B) for the next application cycle. Reach out to your friends and family for support and your mentors for help. With consistency and grit, I believe we can all achieve our goals.

Have a great Tuesday!
