Application Cycle Update!

Let me just start by saying, this application cycle is long. Delayed gratification is so real. I do not think I have had to wait longer for anything else. I am almost to the finish line though thank God. We are more than halfway through the cycle. Here are some updates on my application cycle. I am a re-applicant and this is my second application cycle. I plan to tell you about my first application cycle (which resulted in 0 interviews and 21 rejections) soon. I also want to mention that I only applied to allopathic (MD) schools. I was planning on applying to osteopathic (DO) schools but I had some car problems and all of the money I had saved for my DO applications went to my car. Coincidentally, this also happened to me the first time I tried to apply to DO schools. I qualified for the AAMC Financial Assistance Program (FAP) for both years and so had my 20 primary and 30 secondary costs for my MD schools covered. Okay, so here are my updates:

Total Schools: 30 MD programs

Number of Received Secondaries: 28 (2 did not send a secondary)

Number of Secondaries completed: 26 (I could not find the will to do the last 2)

Interview invites (so far): 8 (6 completed, 2 upcoming)

Acceptances: 2 (so far!) Waiting to hear back from 3 interviews still

Waitlists: 1 (they’ll come around)

Rejections (post-interviews): 0 (yay!)

Rejections (received no interviews): 6 (I’m sure there will be more)

Schools that have ghosted me: 13 (hoping at least 2 more will turn into interviews)

I feel so blessed to have had a successful application cycle. It was not an easy journey but I am glad I have able to get this far. I will say that 8 interviews is a lot. It has been exciting and also exhausting interviewing 8 times. If I get to 10 I’ll be super grateful but will probably stop there unless I get a interview from a top choice. Now I’m trying to focus on pulling a list together of what I want out of schools based on what I have learned this year. In addition, I am trying to navigate financial aid, scholarships, and housing. There is definitely more things to do and I am exited to take you along with me on this journey.
